Active Iron’s new pregnancy supplements are specially developed to optimise vitamin and mineral absorption while being kind on the stomach.
Pregnancy is one of the most demanding times for increased nutritional needs and it’s important to ensure that you’re getting the right nutrients for you and your baby.
Our team of scientists at Trinity College, Dublin researched the best prenatal vitamins to create a supplement for pregnancy that supports Mum and baby at every stage of development.
Active Iron Pregnancy Plus contains essential ingredients like iron, omega 3 and folic acid to provide complete care pre, during and post pregnancy.
FOETAL EYE AND BRAIN DEVELOPMENT
A daily intake of 200mg of DHA in addition to the recommended daily intake of Omega-3 fatty acids (250mg of DHA & EPA) is beneficial to normal foetal eye and brain development.
REDUCED RISK OF NEURAL TUBE DEFECTS NTD
Supplemental folic acid intake of 400mcg for at least one month before and up to three months after conception, can help reduce the risk of neural tube defects in a developing foetus.
IMMUNE SYSTEM & OXYGEN TRANSPORT
Iron supports normal function of the immune system. Iron supports oxygen transport in the body. Iron also supports the formation of haemoglobin and red blood cells.
Iron Supplementation In Pregnancy
Iron is an essential mineral for pregnancy. It contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and plays an important role in normal energy metabolism, oxygen transport, cognitive function, immune function and formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin.
There is an increased need for iron when pregnant as the amount of blood in your body increases.
Many women do not have enough iron in their diet to meet their daily needs, especially during pregnancy. During the second and third trimesters, dietary iron requirements can increase to as much as 30mg per day.
Active Iron is an award-winning non-constipating iron supplement, which is gentle enough to be taken on an empty stomach. Our advanced protein formula helps reduce gut irritation and inflammation associated with iron supplements.
Active Iron is clinically proven to have x2 better absorption than the gold standard iron supplement, ferrous sulfate.**
We supply our Active Iron in a separate capsule to ensure optimum absorption.
Omega 3 In Pregnancy
Our omega capsule contains a specially formulated blend of DHA and EPA. DHA contributes to the normal brain and eye development of the foetus and breastfed infants.*** EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart.
Getting enough omega-3 fatty acids is vitally important during pregnancy, however some women may not get enough through diet alone.
We use AlaskOmega omega-3 concentrates that are 100% sourced from Wild Alaskan Pollock from the Bering Sea. Our capsules are certified Sustainable and Traceable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the first omega-3 concentrate to achieve this distinction.
Folic Acid And Pregnancy
The NHS and HSE recommend that women take a daily prenatal vitamin containing 400mcg of folic acid from 3 months prior to conception (preconception vitamins) to 12 weeks. Folic acid is proven to help reduce the risk of neural tube defects (NTD).****
Active Iron Pregnancy Plus Multivitamin contains Active Folic. A source of folic acid in an active naturally occurringform.
Folic acid is the most common form of folate supplement. However, increasing evidence suggests that the use of reduced folate (methyl folate) may be a better option.
Active Iron Pregnancy contains Active Folic with Quatrefolic®, a source of L-Methylfolate which provides folic acid in an active naturally occurring form.
Active Folic delivers x3 greater absorption than standard folic acid.
